Acts of Desperation

It's funny how people think alternative and complementary medicine is too expensive, time-consuming or inconvenient. Not funny in a ha-ha way, but funny in a hmmm (we need a reality check) way.

These are the same folks that live in constant pain and discomfort not just physically, but emotionally. One feeds the other. Ever hang around someone with back pain? They're just not happy people no matter how much they try to mask it.

These people also take time off from work and spend countless of hours on doctor visits. Well, time is money in my world. What about yours?

They spend hundreds of dollars on otc and prescription drugs, not to mention all the props, first-aid and QVC products to so-call "take away your pain".

That is, of course, until they've come down with something that has surpassed their threshold for pain/discomfort. How much destruction to quality of life is someone willing to endure before they realize their lifestyle needs a remake and fast?!

It is said that 90% of healthcare costs are spent in the last 2years of life. Sounds like a constant state of desperation and one I wouldn't want to be caught in, especially while feeling sick!

The NIH-NCCAM has surveyed in 2007 that over 38% of the population use complementary medicine in the form of mind-body, acupuncture and supplementation to name a few. I'm sure that number has gone up since then and younger and younger people will be in the greater part of the pie-chart. I know because I see it in my practice.

I'm more interested in the demographics of that NCCAM survey so that I can be in the company of those that don't participate in complementary medicine to keep themselves healthy. Why? Because they'll eventually seek it... albeit late in the game, but hopefully not too late.

Vibrant health is a mind and body collaboration. When they are both fueled with wholesome nutrition, fresh air, and harmonious thoughts (re: low stress), quality of life is enhanced. Now is the time to learn about those things, not when you're too sick to appreciate your loved ones, travel, nature or your favorite meals.

Take advantage of the resources around you today. Prevention helps you enjoy life now!
